Overview

Book & Screenplay by Jerome Bixby
Adapted for the Stage by Richard Schenkman

Directed by Cecile Storm of The Factory Arts Project

After history professor, John, unexpectedly resigns from the university, his startled colleagues impulsively invite themselves to his home, pressing him for an explanation. But they’re shocked to hear his reason for premature retirement: John claims he must move on because he is immortal, and cannot stay in one place for more than ten years without his secret being discovered.

Tempers rise and emotions flow as John’s fellow professors attempt to poke holes in his story, but it soon becomes clear that his tale is as impossible to disprove as it is to verify. What starts out as a friendly gathering soon builds to an unexpected and shattering climax.

Acclaimed science fiction writer, Jerome Bixby, writer of the original Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, originally conceived this story back in the 1960’s. It would come to be his last great work.

From our hearts to your ears, this program is funded in part by the Talbot Arts with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council and the governments of Talbot County, Easton, Oxford, and St. Michaels.

About the Director

Cecile Storm started her performance career as a dancer, attending the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. & Dance Harrison Street locally. She did her first play at the age of 14 with Cricket Theater (and director Tim Weigand!), and went on to receive her BA in Contemporary Theatre & Film from East 15 Acting School in London, England. It was in college that she directed her first production and discovered her love of stagecraft and every element of executing a play.

Upon returning home to the Eastern Shore she immediately began acting in local community theatre productions, such as Twelfth Night with Shore Shakespeare and Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None at TAP. She’s been involved with the Avalon Theatre’s annual Christmas production in a myriad of roles including lighting design, costumes, assistant director, and performer. For five years, she directed the play at Saints Peter and Paul High School and more recently has directed five shows for her up and coming arts non-profit, The Factory Arts Project.
